What is a little smoking?
Poor Kirk Hughes – to be surrounded at a concert at the outdoor Usana Amphitheatre by lawbreakers who smoked cigarettes and marijuana (“Usana scofflaws,” Forum, Aug. 23). And shame on Usana for not warning him that among the thousands of people there might be a few who don’t follow the rules.
A possible deterrent to such flagrant disregard of the law might be warning signs posted everywhere stating that there are tattle-tales in the audience intent on getting you in trouble if you smoke. While I’m a nonsmoker, I can imagine the fun in briefly taking up the habit to irritate someone like Hughes, who apparently is more preoccupied with repeated tattling than in enjoying a great concert.
Let’s apply to other venues Hughes’ idea about warning patrons of things they might find disturbing. Hogle Zoo should advise visitors that animals might be seen mating. Movie theaters should caution us that people might talk during the film. And schools should post warning signs that swearwords might be heard in the hallways.
